In my career span of 20 odd years, I got the opportunity of associating myself with so many people professionally and personally.
While some of them were through professionals, some were formal and some of them were very amiable and pleasant to work with. Out of them I would like to mention an officer who influenced me a lot.
Initially I found it very difficult to build a healthy interpersonal relationship with this officer. His behaviour was very unpredictable. At times he appeared to be very amiable and other times his mood swings and unpredictable temperament was very difficult to handle. Slowly I became so stressed out that going to office and facing him day in and day out felt like a nightmare. This extremely stressful situation pushed made me mentally exhausted and pushed me on the brink of depression.
While going through all this nightmarish experience, strangely enough I started observing a different side of his personality. When he used to be in an amiable mood, I found him very considerate and protective towards his subordinates. One day somehow, he observed that I am not in my normal self. He made me sit and asked with an honest concern. To my surprise I shared some of my very personal concerns with him despite knowing that he is my officer and I hardly knew him. Gradually I realised that he is not a difficult person to connect. Slowly a friendly bond started building up between us. He is a very sharp and intelligent officer with a no-nonsense attitude towards his work. I learnt many administrative nuances under his able guidance.
On personal front I found him very outspoken kind of person. Never hesitated to point out the drawbacks. Although he is many years younger to me but his mature approach towards life is way ahead of his age. Many a times his blunt and straightforward comments used to put me into a situation where I had no escape. His brutal and honest remarks made me realise my shortcomings, whether it is in career front or personal front.
One area where I believe he could further strengthen himself is in bringing greater consistency and composure to his interpersonal and communication style.
My sincere gratitude to him for helping me understand myself. May God bless him great health and success in all walks of life. May he always keep going and spreading all around positive vibe with his charming smile.
I will always be indebted to the great God for his grace to help me associate with many wonderful people at all stages of my life journey!
