For Sleep..

It is when Sleep’s God a’ roving,
its psalm resounds in me.
It is when my thoughts a’ hoving
o’er dreamy dreams of thee;
like aves at eventide a’ crooning;
and weary fawns and deers platooning;
like sparrow’s wings that flutter nigh-
in bits and sweets who chatter by.

At silence, when the mind’s in rest,
this mortal frame be leaving.
and gently swelling up the chest,
my quiet heart- relieving.
Like shrills of whistle (proud) a’ blowing,
at summer’s morn the lochs a’ glowing,
day’s lassitude formed upon my eyes.
no more are in dream’s enterprise.
