Today I was back from office much before time. It was a surprise for my seven year old son. I believe it’s a pleasant surprise because as soon as I entered my home he exclaimed,
“Papa aaj to aapko mere saath khelna hi padega. Aap kabhi nahi khelte mere saath.”
Within a few seconds he was back with a bat and a ball in his hand. We went to the park and started playing. He bowled at me, and I smacked the ball high in the air.
It was intentional hard hitting from me. Soon I was successful in tiring him out. We sat on the bench in the park to rest. Suddenly he asked,
“Papa ye ball itni upar jak e neeche qyu aa jati hai?”
Whoa….so we have Newton in making!! It was a good question. I wanted to explain him gravity, but I thought it would be too complex for a seven-year-old. To make it simple for him (& myself) I replied,
“Ye science hai beta”
“Ye sab kuchh science hi kyon hoti hai?”
“Matlab”
“Jab maine school mein madam se poochha ki baarish kaise hoti hai unhone bhi yahi kaha ki ye science hai.”
I smiled, and said “Kyoki har cheez mei science hai. Ye jo gaadi chal rahi…ye jo building hai sab mei science hai. Science ke bina ye ho hi nahi sakte the”
“To kya agar science na hoti to hum bhi nahi hote.”
“Bilkul theek. Hum jo saans lete hain us mei bhi science hai”
“Science na hoti to kya Bhagwan bhi na hote?”
I was taken aback by this statement. I had no answer. I said, ”Beta science Bhagwan ko nahi manti.”
“Par Bhagwan to hote hain, aapne hi kaha tha.”
A lawyer Newton….interrogating his father. And the father was feeling bit uneasy now.
”Haan Bhagwan to hote hain.” I mumbled somehow.
“To fir humein science ne banaya ya Bhagwan ne?”
“Humein science ne banaya aur science ko Bhagwan ne.”
“Agar humein science ne aur science ko Bhagwan ne, To fir science q nahi manti Bhagwan ko?”
And suddenly it started raining. I don’t know from where the clouds came.
“Ohh!!! Chalo jaldi bhaago. Ghar chalte hain nahi to hum boori tarah bheeg jayenge” I wrapped it up quickly and we started running. Akaalroop was enjoying the rain as water drops were kissing his face. He stopped and closed his eyes. With his face towards the sky, he said. “Mazaa aa gaya Papa”
I also stopped, closed my eyes, and thanked God.
Perhaps, God also knew I had no answer.
