My first experience of spiritual practice 

Rishikesh is situated on the banks of the Ganges, in the State of Uttrakhand known as the land of Gods. A few days ago, I attended a Satsang for the first time in Rishikesh. The Satsang was a discourse on spirituality through the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavata Katha. It was an amazing experience. 

Living a disciplined life for seven days away from hustle of daily life, waking up every morning before sunrise, reaching the banks of the Ganges, doing meditation before the satsang, listening the Vedic chants coming so fluently from small children of the Veda Pathshala, Hosur (Karnataka) with Ganges flowing in the background -was surreal.

Attending Ganga Ma’s Aarti daily in the evening gave much needed peace to the mind. I had heard about the glory of our Upanishads and Vedas earlier as well, but attending this Satsang, helped me a lot to understand the importance of these divine scriptures.

In this Satsang, I had the good fortune of listening to Ramanacharanatheertha Sri Venkatramanji, the disciple of our great sage Raman. I realized that without the guidance of a Guru and spiritual practice, it is very difficult to walk the uncertain path of life which is full of struggles and sorrows. 

I will always be grateful to those who enabled my first experience of spiritual practice.
