Unspoken

With apology.
When I said nothing
even if I wanted to scream.
With my black-pearl eyes.
With my fear if love’s going to be a tomb for nothing.
With my open eager mouth.
With the rush of my blood and my tender bruises.

I walked with my pockets full of stones,
and the ocean tore at my feet.
With the empty glass against my lips.
With both hands that needed stitches.
With my hair out of place.
No makeup. No nothing.
I listened deeply,
intensely with all my heart.

With every house I ever lived in.
With my begging knees.
With deep breaths of morning air.
With all the space I’ve carved out for others
but not for myself.
With all my innocence.
With my wings that takes me anywhere.
With a glimmer of humor.
With all my favorite flowers
I have planted in my mother’s garden.
With all the chapters of books
I have read all by myself
just to compare which ones have better endings.
I have pawned my heart to people
who didn’t see my worth.
How badly they ignored the hole
until it became theirs.
With a bit of blood caked under my fingernails.
I have every taste of it before he washed them away.
Walking around the dimmed house in his white shirt
and my bare feet soundless
on the cold surface of his kitchen floor.
With my whole body on fire
in the dark of his room
where he made up for what he did to me.
When he told me to speak my truth and turn up my volume.
When I said I’d never leave
because I don’t want to be alone.

When I packed my luggage because
I know I have a bigger place
to grow and bloom.
