It was the 01st day of the year.
It had been quite cold for the last two days. 2024 had collected the baton from 2023 and ensured that there was no reprieve from the cold. I was getting ready for my office As I was about to tie my turban I saw my son sleeping in the bed fully covered with Rajai. I thought, “A lot of time is there. Why not have a feel of the warmth of Rajai.”
Quietly I slipped myself into the Rajai. I could feel the warmth of my son. I took him in my arms and we cuddled in that cozy place. Still in deep sleep, slowly he put his small hand on my face. I touched my face with his face. My face was cold but it was chilling for him. He shivered a bit and then quickly he hid his face in my arms. the warmth of that Rajai along with the warmth from the touch of his innocent face transpired into me. It was so soothing and I was almost about to sleep. These 15 mins, which appeared like just a minute had passed, were very wonderful. Most of the time I get irritated by the gloominess in winter but today I realized the beauty of winter. You can feel the coziness and togetherness with your loved ones. I felt blessed that God had given me such moments to cherish which took over the inertia of going to the office which was disturbing me. After some time, my phone rang. It was my friend from office.
“Yaar aaj mai late ho jauna”
“Koi Baat Nahi, par tum abhi kar kya rahe ho?”
“Bus nahane jar aha hu. Tum kya kar rahe ho?”
“Mai to teyaar ho gaya hu. Bus nikal raha hu.”
“Abe pehle rajai se to nikal ja.”
I was taken aback by the reply and I realized I had made myself so comfortable with my son that I had forgotten about the office completely. And I was so comfortable that even my friend could feel it in my voice.
“Haa bhai, theek hai. Tum se pehle office aa jaunga.”
He hung up. Quietly I got out of the rajai. Every second was very tough to bear. Eventually, I was ready. I turned back once before leaving. My son was still sleeping. He had turned around but was completely covered with Rajai.
