Australia has done what nobody might have expected. Playing finals in India against India against top team in the league stage against a team that humbled every other team against a team that was ruthless throughout and against a team that nobody wanted to meet in finals.
For many finals was already decided but not for Australia. They had different plans. Pat Cummins on the eve of match said “Nothing is more satisfying to see Indian crowd remain silent”. Only Australia can do it.
Our team had everything but Australians have shown why are on top in almost every game. Its there attitude and mental strength that makes them standout. But this world cup has been phenomenal as it has resulted in creating an environment where there is potential to have more teams with Australia like spirit.
Former World Champions who not only lost there matches but also their board. Who have the economy of their country in shatters who do not have many senior players in their team and have failed to qualify for champions trophy. They will have to go through the process of qualification. Sri Lanka has nothing in their favour.
Champions in last world cup and defeated by almost all the teams, England has shown how quickly one can fall. They have done it in the past and certainly are like wounded tigers. They have outclassed the teams in becoming best Test team, win t20 world cup and won the ODI world cup. If they can turn around next time around will be something that would be soothing
A team with most number of semi final appearances without winning the world is what makes New Zealand a world class team. No they are not chokers. They are one of the most balanced team in all world cups, at least in the 21st century but things have not just clicked for them. Probably its just the Australia like attitude that is missing. This world cup might just trigger it and put them at the pinnacle next time around.
What one thing is there that Pakistan team hasn’t faced. Probably the most memes that I have scene. They had it all. Conditions that are akin to Sri Lanka. Adding to it failing to loose against India. Also, getting a tag that they make it to the finals at the mercy of weaker teams and some results going there way. Like Sri lanka, their board and economy isn’t doing good. It isn’t that they aren’t talented. Everybody believed that they were the team to look out for. What was missing was the mindset. They will have to take a lot of efforts even to make it to knockouts but they can not only make it to knockout but win as well and achieve all the laurels with the Australia like attitude.
South Africa, as usual went away with the chokers tag. There is nothing more to say about them. Its clearly understood if they have to get out of this tag, the Australian like attitude is what is required.
Two times ODI champions. Two times T-20 champions and not making it to the world cup will be biggest heartbreak not only for the players but also for the West Indies people. Carl Hooper, the coach of the team, said during the qualification matches that worst will happen and we might not make it to the World Cup. The fact that such a statement was made was because of the outlook of the players and not because the team lacked talent and skills. So certainly, the Australian mindset will give them a boost and history knows when West Indies come back, the come back with a bang.
If only catch of Maxwell was not dropped, Afghanistan had almost made it to the semi finals. They are a bunch of mentally strong and talented players but what probably was missing was the final punch which can certainly be achieved. Probably with the mindset what Australian have shown in the Finals. If they can develop this mindset, they will be more ferocious and stronger next time around.
Finally the Indian team. This team had it all. The batting line up, the bowling and the fielding as well. They had ability to out class other team and thrash them even before the battle began. After the loss of finals, there are two paths that emerge. Mourning, depression, fault finding etc etc. but what can be different would be not to drop the intensity but to maintain it and take it to next level by the next world cup. Some of these guys might not be there next time but those who are there have to believe that anything is possible and it was made possible by Australia in Finals. The self belief and to give the final blow with the same intensity as the first one. I am not saying it wasn’t given. These lines are for the fans who have to stand with the heroes. Players who are our heroes and players who have emerged as heroes. We cant let our heroes to go down. We need to stand with them and put that energy in them that will make them stand apart and ensure that this defeat make them so strong that even Australian team with Australian mindset isn’t sufficient. Certainly, this defeat in finals.
Beware Australia, you might have to do Australia again to beat all the teams if they play with Australian mindset. This world cup has already set the platform for 2027…
